I hope your last year has been as memorable as ours at Studio. From the razor-sharp wit of crowd-pleaser Love, Love, Love to the infectious joy of Fat Ham, this season has been full of winners. Studio continues to stand as an advocate for uncompromising contemporary artists and as a home for plays that are provocative, courageous, unexpected, meaty, irreverent, hilarious, tragic. 

We don’t intend to let the momentum flag next year, which holds an array of surprises for even our most seasoned audiences in a season of buzzworthy plays from today’s hot writers. Our production of Paradise Blue by Studio favorite Dominique Morisseau (Pipeline) will transform the Victor Shargai Theatre into a Detroit jazz club from the fifties. And you will be astonished by the powerhouse performances of two DC acting legends, Kate Eastwood Norris and Holly Twyford, as we travel back to Summer, 1976 by David Auburn (Proof). 

A bevy of twists also await in the new works we have planned. Police crisis response training takes an unexpected comic turn in our world premiere of The Scenarios by up-and-coming playwright Matthew Capodicasa, while three fascinating and funny women in their golden years will bring secrets to the surface as they learn to hang ten on the Santa Cruz waves in Wipeout by Aurora Real de Asua.  

We’re also producing the genre-bending comedy Exception to the Rule by Dave Harris, which sees six high schoolers joking, flirting, and fighting through a purgatorial detention. And the intensity of provocateur Bruce Norris’s (Clybourne Park) disquieting drama Downstate is guaranteed to stick with you long after the lights go down.  

We’ve also got a few more surprises up our sleeve, with some special engagements we’ll be able to share with you very soon. Your ongoing patronage sustains our commitment to delivering theatre like this.
