“Chocolate City” is a nickname that Washington, DC has worn with pride for decades. Studio Theatre’s next production, Good Bones, is inspired partly by the vibrant Black community of our own Chocolate City. It’s a story about gentrification and displacement, community and belonging, and a woman who’s learning to love a legacy she’s just starting to understand.
The show was created by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright James Ijames and is brought to life by an inspired director, Psalmayene 24, and an exceptional cast. It speaks directly to the Black experience in DC and many other cities where race, class, and power are driving profound changes in their communities and power structures. We’re hoping this special performance will be an opportunity for Black and Brown audience members from across the DMV to come together and celebrate Chocolate City.
